For hotel owners

Running a more profitable hotel is an engineering problem. We have solved it before.

Lower energy costs, fewer supplier relationships to manage, and a system that looks after itself. HNordic builds and maintains the whole energy system so you can run the hotel.

Start with an audit

Owner-operators have a particular relationship with their properties. The building is not a financial instrument -- it is where they work, often where they live part of the year, and in many cases the result of a generation or more of family investment. Capital decisions carry personal weight.

Which means the questions matter more than the answers. Not "what does this technology do?" but "what does this do for my hotel?" Not "what is the payback period?" but "will it still be working in ten years, and who do I call when it needs attention?" Not "is this a good technology?" but "has someone like me done this, and what happened?"

HNordic is set up to answer those questions honestly. The audit is the starting point -- it tells you what your specific property needs before anything is sold to you. The maintenance contract means HNordic is still accountable years after the installation. And the reference question -- the peer case study request -- is the one we take most seriously, because it is the question that matters most to the people we work with.

The financial case

What changes when the energy bill falls

For owner-operators, the financial case is personal and immediate. Energy is typically one of the three largest operating costs in a hotel. When it falls materially, the business feels it in the first month.

The efficiency improvements arrive first. LED lighting and efficient heating deliver savings from the day they are commissioned -- no weather dependency, no tariff complexity. They reduce demand before it needs to be offset by generation, which means the generation and storage system sized to follow is smaller and less capital-intensive.

The full picture, once the complete system is running:

Heating cost reductionEfficient electric radiators replacing gas or oil -- powered by stored energy
Lighting cost reductionLED replacement of conventional lighting
Daytime grid import reductionSelf-consumption from generation or battery dispatch
Peak demand charge reductionBattery dispatch during peak demand periods
EV charging revenueGuest charging revenue managed by AI
Energy certification improvementBuilding performance rating uplift from whole-system installation

The audit models each of these for your specific property. It tells you the order of magnitude before you commit to anything.

The efficiency sequence

Why efficiency improvements come first

The most common mistake in hotel energy investment is sizing the generation system against the hotel's current energy demand. The current demand includes the waste -- the energy that would have been saved by LED lighting, by an efficient heating system, by better demand management. Generating to offset waste is the most expensive way to improve the energy bill.

HNordic's approach is to address efficiency first. LED lighting and heating replacement reduce demand. The battery storage and generation system is then sized against the lower demand -- which means it costs less capital to install and earns a better return on that capital.

Across HNordic's hotel engagements, the average reduction in initial system size estimate after an energy audit is 35--45%. For properties with older heating systems -- gas or oil boilers, electric storage heaters -- the reduction is frequently at the higher end.

The system you don't manage

AI energy management

Owner-operators typically do not have an energy management team. The building is managed by the owner, a small operations team, and an outside maintenance contractor. Adding an energy system means adding another piece of infrastructure to understand, maintain, and troubleshoot.

HNordic's AI energy management system is designed for this reality. It optimises battery charge and discharge, schedules EV charging demand, and manages grid export automatically. It connects to day-ahead electricity price forecasts and weather data and adjusts its behaviour accordingly. You see the results on a web dashboard -- generation, consumption, battery state, revenue. You receive an alert if anything requires attention. Otherwise, it runs itself.

The maintenance contract handles the rest. HNordic monitors system performance remotely and dispatches a service engineer for scheduled maintenance or if a fault is flagged. One number to call.

Installation

The occupancy question

The question that matters most to most hotel owners about installation is timing: will it disrupt guests during a critical period?

HNordic schedules installation around the occupancy calendar. For Alpine or seasonal hotels with a defined off-season, all installation work is completed within that window. Urban hotels have more flexibility and work with HNordic to identify the right phasing for the property.

For installations without a wind turbine -- battery storage, EV charging, heating, and LED -- installation does not require planning consent for the generation components and is completed significantly faster than a full turbine installation. Working with HNordic

What the partnership with HNordic looks like

Before the installation

The energy audit

A structured assessment of your property. Two to three site visits, data analysis, a written report with a costed roadmap. Fees from €15,000 -- credited to the maintenance contract if the project proceeds.

After the installation

The maintenance contract

Remote monitoring, scheduled maintenance visits, performance reporting, and fault response. HNordic monitors against the audit projections and acts on any divergence. The fee credit structure means our commercial model is aligned with your outcomes.

The audit is the commitment signal in both directions. It tells you HNordic has done the work to understand your property. It tells HNordic that you are a serious buyer, not a tyre-kicker. The relationship is built on that shared investment from the start.
